What should I do?

How to prepare for an emergency, and what to do if one happens.

  • Get a household emergency plan

Sit down with your family and plan for what you will do in different situations, like fires, earthquakes, or storms.

  • Stock up on supplies

Make sure you’ve got everything you need to be self sufficent for at least three days.

  • Stay up to date with the latest info

During, or after an emergency information can change quickly, so you need to stay informed.

  • Register to receive updates

Sign up to receive updates from your local authorities or community groups. This way, you’ll be informed about any emergencies or important information in your area.

  • Know your closest Community Hub

Find out where the nearest community hub is. These places provide support and information during emergencies, like where to get food, water, or medical help.

  • Be prepared to leave

During an emergency you may have to evacuate. It’s a good idea to have an emergency grab bag ready to be able to leave the house as quickly as possible.

  • When to evacuate

During some emergencies like a fire, flood, or tsunami, you might need to evacuate your home. So, how do you know if you need to leave?

  • Evacuation

    Plan your exit route

Figure out the best way to get out of your home or neighbourhood if you have to evacuate. Plan multiple routes in case some roads are blocked or unsafe.

  • Get to know your neighbour

Get to know the people who live near you, so if there is an emergency, you can help each other out by sharing resources, checking on each other’s safety, and offering support.

When will the emergency plan be activated?

One of the stakeholders can activate the response plan if there’s a serious problem, like heat wave, or big storm causing flooding or power outages. The community doesn’t need the CCC Civil Defence Team’s approval to open the hub and respond to the need.
