What’s an Emergency Response?

It means that if we have an emergency we’re educated and prepped to deal with it.

Both during, and after the event. And that we’ve figured out how to best allocate resources to help our community get through.

Why do we need to be prepared?

When bad things happen, like floods, fires, or other emergencies, having a plan helps keep everyone safe and organized. Without a plan, it’s harder to know what to do, and people might get hurt, or things might get damaged.

  • The main goal of having a plan is to make sure nobody gets hurt or dies during emergencies. By knowing what to do and where to go, we can stay safe.

  • Working together with the CCC Civil Defence Team helps us all stay on the same page. This means we can share resources and help each other better when an emergency happens.

  • We need to know what help is available nearby and how to share it out if we are trapped or isolated from the city’s supply lines. This makes sure everyone gets what they need, like medical help, food, water, or shelter.

  • It’s important for each family to have their own plan and supplies ready. This includes things like emergency kits and knowing what to do if we must leave home quickly.

  • We need to learn about what could go wrong in our area and how to get ready for it. This means knowing what to do in emergencies and practicing so we’re ready if something happens.

Emergencies could be…

Tsunami

Pandemic

Flood

Heatwave

Fire

Earthquake

Toxic Spill

Cyclone

This initiative is all about making sure our community is strong and ready.

It's a joint effort led by Renew Brighton Charitable Trust along with the Christchurch Civil Defence Emergency Management Team. We've put together a comprehensive emergency plan to help us prepare for various climate-related challenges like cyclones, heatwaves, floods, and earthquakes.

Steps to keep everyone safe and sound

Community Emergency Response Hubs

We're setting up three Community Emergency Response Hubs. These hubs will be essential centres for coordination, sharing information, resources and providing help during emergencies.

Education & awareness campaign

This year we'll be launching an awareness campaign for residents. This program will include workshops, training sessions, and information to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively during emergencies.

A Commitment to each other

We've signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with key stake holders in our community to strengthen our commitment to work together seamlessly. It shows everyone’s dedication to the community's well-being.
